The character Green Beret "John Rambo" was the brainchild of Canadian author David Morrell, and his story was translated to the screen, with Stallone as the main character for First Blood (1982), also starring Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. The film was a surprise success and divided the audience because it addressed the Vietnam War which was still fresh in Americans' minds. This film, in spite of the political opinions and its international appeal, became a huge hit. A sequel called Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), took place. The movie received more criticism due to its narrative that implied that American MIAs were held in Vietnam. They say bad publicity isn't possible. "John Rambo"'s second film brought in a significant amount of cash for Stallone which made him one of the most adored male actors of the 80s. On the back of an incredible surge of success, Stallone called on old his sparring partner Rocky Balboa to climb back into the ring in order to protect American proudness against an ominous Soviet menace in the shape of a massive Russian boxer dubbed "Ivan Drago" who was played by the curt Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV (1985). Due to the amount of violence that was featured in the fourth film being over the top, it became a source of debate for "Rocky" lovers. The brutality levels were more severe than the previous Rocky movies.
